Michael was brought up in Tullow, County Carlow and was educated at Newbridge College, Newbridge, County Kildare. He has been a Financial Adviser since 1997, beginning his career shortly after leaving the University of Wales Bangor. An opportunity then arose in 2000 for Michael to join St. James's Place Wealth Management (then known as the J. Rothschild Assurance Group).
The majority of Michael’s business comes from referrals from existing clients. Michael’s relationship with his clients is very much an ongoing one, and he communicates regularly. "Things will change at my clients end whether it’s their lifestyle, career or family situation but also from my end legislation and tax breaks can have a big impact on my clients lives so it’s very important that they are aware of these changes and how they may be affected."
Over the years Michael has developed a realisation that many clients, although being successful in their own right, find themselves in a situation where they do not have sufficient time or expertise to focus upon their finances.
Inevitably people deal with people they like and have an affinity to; this has resulted in Michael being drawn towards entrepreneurs and many of the Irish community in London and Britain. He concentrates on sensible investment strategies whilst reducing clients' overall liability to Inheritance Tax. The principles behind Michael’s approach ensures that he meets the needs of successful individuals from all walks of life. Clients include directors of public limited companies, professionals, professional athletes and the retired – a varied group, but one with a common theme: the requirement for a trusted and competent relationship to achieve successful financial outcomes.
Michael enjoys an active lifestyle and also a variety of sports particularly rugby, swimming and mountain climbing.
The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.
The levels and bases of taxation and reliefs from taxation can change at any time. The value of any tax relief depends on individual circumstances.
